Beta Carotene and Breast Cancer

Eat your beta-carotene! Did you know that beta-carotene can decrease breast cancer risk? Caroteniods are antioxidants such as alpha & beta carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, and lycopene that are found in yellow, orange, and green colored fruits and vegetables. 

Caroteniods protect against reactive oxygen species which are formed from oxidative stress in the body from heavy metals, toxins, infections, medications, radiation, and metabolic metabolites, and can cause damage to DNA. When alpha and beta carotene are converted to retinol, it can even suppress tumor growth and estrogen receptor signaling. 

Studies have shown that higher intakes of alpha and beta carotene can decrease Estrogen receptor negative (ER-) breast cancer. Are you eating enough carotenoids?
