Lyme disease is more common than you think! According to the CDC, more than 300,00 Americans are diagnosed each year. Lyme is known as the great imitator, meaning it can mimic so many disorders. It is commonly the root cause of fibromyalgia, arthritis, thyroid, autoimmune disorders (MS,  Lupus, Chronic Fatigue), and Dementia (Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s).

When it’s not diagnosed and left untreated for years, it can progress to affect the brain, heart, muscles and nervous system causing cognitive, neurological, musculoskeletal, and psychological symptoms. Most providers can do a simple blood test to check antibodies but these can come back falsely negative because titers decline with time. Another reason is that tests only check for one bacteria that causes Lyme Disease but there are other microbes that could be transmitted by ticks as well which is why more testing is needed.  that are not tested

If you have any of these disorders, your symptoms are not improving with conventional therapies, and you have lived in Lyme prevalent areas, follow up with a Functional Medicine practitioner for further specialized testing for Lyme and coinfections. Please share with your family and friends to bring awareness about Lyme.
